Algorithmic Aversion

The tendency of humans to distrust and resist relying on algorithmic or AI recommendations, even when they measurably outperform human judgment.

In plain language

When people distrust AI recommendations simply because they come from a machine, even if the AI is more accurate than a human would be. It's the opposite of blindly trusting algorithms.

Why this matters

Algorithmic aversion can undermine AI adoption by preventing users from engaging with beneficial systems. Your governance and change management approach should address trust through user education, transparent communication about capabilities and limitations, and evidence of AI system performance.

Relevance

Implementation

Change management and user adoption are critical implementation challenges. Organisations must design change strategies that address psychological resistance to AI through transparent communication and demonstrated value.
